
Prof. Dr. Ersoy KOCABIÇAK
Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak, specialist in Brain and Neurosurgery, completed his medical education and neurosurgery residency at Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine and became a faculty member at the same university in 2009. He completed his doctorate in neuroscience at Maastricht University in the Netherlands — where he went for functional neurosurgery training — with a thesis titled "Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease." In 2017, he contributed to the structuring of the Neuromodulation Center, established for the first time in Turkey at Ondokuz Mayıs University, bringing together scientific disciplines working collaboratively in movement disorders, psychiatric diseases, and pain surgery under one roof, and was appointed as center director. His professional and scientific interests are the surgery of movement disorders and psychiatric diseases.
He has over 100 international and national articles, book chapters, and presentations on deep brain stimulation. He is a founding member of the International Deep Brain Stimulation Society, and currently serves as a board member and Turkey representative of the same society. He serves as neurosurgery section editor of the Deep Brain Stimulation Journal. He is a former committee member of the functional group of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. He serves as president of the National Deep Brain Stimulation Society and is a former board member of the Turkish Neurosurgery Academy. He has served as secretary for 2 terms, vice president for 1 term, and president for 1 term of the Stereotactic and Functional Group of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society. He has also served 2 terms on the board of the Neuromodulation Research and Education Society. He edited the book "DBS in Neurological and Psychiatric Diseases," the first of its kind in Turkey in the DBS field. He provides consultancy to numerous universities and training hospitals in initiating and sustaining DBS surgery programs. Since May 25, 2024, he has been serving as Rector of Atlas University, continuing his surgeries and patient follow-ups at Atlas University Hospital.
